In 2004, Immaculate Conception Church purchased 35 acres of farmland on which to build a new church and school. On January 7, 2013 they dedicated the new church. Six years to the day after the groundbreaking of their new church, the parish gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of their new school.
The 50,000 sq. ft. building replaces the Catholic school located on Main Street, in Columbia, IL. It serves as the parish’s kindergarten through 8th grade school, pre-school program, Parish School of Religion, as well as adult formation.
In addition to two classrooms per grade, the new facility includes a gymnasium, cafeteria, and combination band room / stage. The cafeteria located on the lower level of the structure will also serve as a “Life Safety Storm Shelter” meeting the criteria of new state and federal codes.
