September 6, 2023 – A day that’s been years in the making took place on a bluff on the west side of Valmeyer. A brief groundbreaking ceremony was held September 6 for Waterloo’s new water treatment plant. The journey began in February 2019 when the Waterloo City Council retained HMG Inc. to design a new water treatment plant. In 2019 and 2021, the city purchased land from the Village of Valmeyer for the future site of the plant and the well. In April of this year, Korte & Luitjohan Contractors, Inc. was awarded the low bid of $15,988,500 to construct the plant. Officials from the City of Waterloo, K & L, and HMG participated in the groundbreaking.
