The City of Collinsville began construction of a new 5.0 MGD (millions gallon per day) water treatment plant in February of 2017, with Korte & Luitjohan as the general contractor on the project.
The project consisted of the installation of a two-claricone and four-filter process for treating raw water. The claricones and filters were set in place prior to the installation of the exterior pre-cast concrete panels that range in size from 35 to 40 feet tall.
The new plant includes a new 600,000-gallon reinforced concrete clearwell, all necessary piping, electrical services and WTP controls.
The new 19,600 sf two-story building is constructed of primarily precast concrete wall with steel floor and roof structures. The WTP building includes:
- Administration offices
- Chemical feed area
- Claricone area
- Filtration area
- Lab facility
Once the new plant went on-line, K&L completed the demolition of the old plant.
